Let me start this off by saying I won't be mentioning "Stance" at all in this post.

Obviously we all know at this point the Datassun is all function over form and most of the form comes from a 8 dollar can of spray paint and the two artist in my life (GF and Brother) .

The wheels were put on the car because they had fatter tires on them compared to my stock wheels and I couldn't have any fun in the hill country with the stock wheels and fully adjustable suspension .. too soft and it's like driving a boat too stiff and it would just understeer into immediate oversteer. ( Side Note: I came very close to totalling the car with the stock tires before all this motor swap jazz even got started)

The air damn was put on because at over 70 mph the car felt like the front wheels were actually ice skates. Which I'm happy to say after riveting the air damn which I found at a inspection place in gangsta east Austin to the stock lower valance it helped a million times over .

Now the seats may have been a dash of Form for the car . However the seats in came with were destroyed and I found these on CL for 80 bucks then paid Johns interiors just outside of austin to wrap them in $13.50 Mexican blankets I got from Mexicanblankets.com total I have 300 in the seats. But I couldn't be happier with them and they set the car leaps and bounds apart from any other car on the road much less any other 280z . Keep in mind these are still function because the stock seats were destroyed and these actually have some support to keep you in your spot.

So what I want to see is how you guys built your cars . Were you a guy that paid 4k in wheels for a stock car or are you the guy that doesn't have a passenger seat or back seat #becauseracecar . Lets see it Oppo winner gets to drive the Datassun if you come to me ;)

It as no form nor function. But, I'm picking up the donor car in about a week, so that will be a big step forward.

I recently raised the ride height on my Cavalier. And it's all about function. Sure the lowrider look was good, but now that I ride kind of high up, I am really enjoying being able to go over bumps and park over curbs.

Looks ridiculous, but it's my kind of ridiculous and i don't care.

yeah, im glad the car hasnt folded in 2 yet. There is no floor or rockers in the car at all.

restoration with personalization

i hate cars restored to factory condition where every single nut and bolt is exactly the same and where it should be

it get boring going to car shows and seeing cars exactly the same as each other because its "factory"

at least put a aftermarket radio or something in it too make it stand out from the rest

My car is about priorities and money. Function comes first so long as it doesn't look too shitty. I have way to many other hobbies to spend money on to worry about both form and function, so it's pretty much pick one. The car didn't drive home straight when I bought it, now it is my DD. That's good enough for now, till I pay off some more debt.

The truck was all function when I bought it, I am currently in the midst of both massive rust repair(adding more function) and some mild customization(giving it some form). So a little of both.

xB is similarly pretty much all function, with it's massive carrying capacity and high MPG. I added additional function(stiffer springs, H brace, rear sway bar, rear hub spacers), and then added form in the form of more fun paint job, LED interior lights, etc.

I guess it comes down to my likely highly functional vehicles but enjoying form as long as it doesn't detract from the function.

I lowered my wagon for the form, but unlike most people I did it properly for the function.

DIY coilovers with roll center adjusters, and short stroke conversion to the struts keeps the geometry and travel there when you lower the car.

Also DIY homemade urethane bushings

Limit straps to prevent axle droop when the car goes on jackstands

And a skid plate to protect the oil pan

Low

Also Celica Supra seats (junkyard find for like $30 for the pair) modified to fit the wagon

And most importantly:

...third pedal conversion.

You know .. I started one but its just so hard to keep up with. I'm the guy that wants to work on my car not take pictures and try to work on my car at the same time. I see these build threads with insane detail and I think to myself .. " Damn so when did they get to work on the car ? "
